Commitment, Submission and Authority
A Brief Essay
by Bill Newcomer
Total commitment is to be to God alone.
All other commitments are relative to Him.
Commitment to a particular church is therefore not
total.
Total submission is to be to God alone.
All other submission is relative to Him.
Submission to a particular church is therefore not
total.
Total authority is God's alone.
All other authority is relative to Him.
Authority in a particular church is therefore not
total.
My total commitment is not to any one church.
My total submission is not to any one church.
My absolute authority is not any one church.
My ultimate commitment is to God alone.
My ultimate submission is to God alone.
My ultimate authority is God alone.
The church is not God, so my commitment to a church
cannot be ultimate.
The church is not God, so my submission to a church cannot
be ultimate.
The church is not God, so my acceptance of a church's
authority cannot be total.
No particular church can be ultimate Lord of my
conscience.
God alone is Lord of my conscience.
God helping me,
I will have no graven images in His place.
He alone is LORD!
